Karna Gupta – Chairman
Chairman of the Board of Directors of VOTI Inc., Karna Gupta is one of the most respected and well-seasoned executives in high technology with more than 35 years of outstanding industry experience. Mr. Gupta served as President and CEO of ITAC (Information Technology Association of Canada). His past positions included Chief Executive Officer of Certicom, President of Comverse Billing and Sitraka Mobility, Chief Marketing Officer of Comverse Americas and Eftia Inc, and VP Product Development of Bell Canada.
Mr. Gupta holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from Concordia University and has attended executive development programs at Duke University, Harvard, MIT and the University of Western Ontario.
William Awad – Founder, Director
Mr. Awad sits on the board of directors of VOTI Inc. and also holds the position of Chief Technical Officer. He has over twenty years of experience in research and development, electronics design and manufacturing. Before founding VOTI, Mr. Awad was President and CEO of LPS International, a technology firm specializing in business applications and video-security systems. He holds a Masters of Engineering (Electronic).
David Crevier – Director
Mr. Crevier contributes vast experience in business law. A partner at Colby Monet, David has developed a strong expertise in transactional law, including mergers and acquisitions, securities law and corporate law. David assists clients in public and private financings as well as equity investments. In addition, David is well known for his reputation in mining law. David was called to the Quebec Bar in 1975. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at Loyola College (now Concordia University) and degrees in Civil and Common Law at McGill University.
Jim Fleck – Director
Mr. Fleck is a broadly respected entrepreneur, business professor and philanthropist. He founded Fleck Manufacturing Inc., specializing in wiring systems for appliances, which he grew to over 3,000 employees and $100 million in sales before selling the company in 1994 to Noma Industries. He moved on to help grow other standout businesses, such as Alias Research, ATI and CUC Cable.
Jim Fleck has also had a standout career in academia (having taught at Harvard Business School, York University and the University of Toronto) and in government. He was CEO of the Office of the Premier of Ontario, Secretary of the Cabinet, and deputy minister of Industry and Tourism.
Mr. Fleck is a highly active cultural philanthropist having generously donated time, expertise and financial support to a number of arts organizations. He is Chairman of the Council for Business and the Arts in Canada, Chairman of the Ontario Minister’s Advisory Council on Arts and Culture, President of the Art Gallery of Ontario Foundation, Harbourfront Foundation, a past Director and Chairman of Tennis Canada, a Director of the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research, and was founding President of The Power Plant, Contemporary Art. He is a member of the Chief Executives Organization and was on the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1997 and received The Edmund C. Bovey Award for leadership support of the arts in Canada in Oct. 2003. In 2015, Mr. Fleck was promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada.
Mr. Fleck holds a BA from the University of Western Ontario. He attended Harvard University as a Ford Foundation Fellow and was awarded a Doctorate of Business Administration in Finance (DBA) and was awarded a Doctor of Laws honoris causa by the University of Toronto as well as awarded the degree of Doctor of Sacred Letters honoris causa (DSL) by the University of Trinity College.
Neil Hindle – Director
Mr. Neil R. Hindle has extensive senior executive management experience in entrepreneurial businesses. He is co-founder and President of Barrontech Investments Inc. and is a Venture Partner with Walsingham Growth Partners. He was also Chairman and CFO of Atrion International Inc. up until a successful exit from the business in 2010.
Prior to Atrion, Mr. Hindle was Managing Partner for Knorr Capital Partner Inc. Knorr was a wholly owned subsidiary of Knorr Capital Partner AG, a publicly traded German-based venture management company with dual head offices in Munich and Montreal.
Mr. Hindle began his career with Coopers & Lybrand (C&L), Chartered Accountants where he built an expertise and client base in mid-size entrepreneurial businesses and related tax planning and strategies.
Mr. Hindle obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Hon) from Queen’s University and a Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy from McGill University. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1980 and is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, l’Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
Joel King – Director
Joel King is a lawyer and entrepreneur. After a successful 20-year career in Montreal, Mr. King retired from the law practice in 1999. He has since devoted his time and energy to community work as well as to investments in both the public and private sector.
Joel earned his undergraduate degree in Science from McGill University in 1968, followed by a B.C.L. (Civil Law) in 1971 and an LL. B (Common Law) in 1972, also from McGill. He was subsequently licensed to practice law in both Quebec and Ontario.
